WHERE TO STAY

Tattersalls Hotel
Art Deco decor, a premium guest lounge and sunroom, in-house restaurant, pizza garden and cocktail bar are features of Armidale’s renowned Tattersalls. In the heart of town, the hotel’s doors first swung open in 1854 and they’ve been delivering a luxurious accommodation experience ever since. Each room has an ensuite, aircon and – the best bit – white fluffy robes. Fancy.

Keen to travel with a light carbon footprint? Check out Armidale’s first certified carbon-neutral motel. While you’ll be ticking the environmentally conscious box, you’ll also find clean, budget-friendly rooms for solo, duo and family travellers. It’s conveniently located near the CBD – make a note to look up when you pass St Mary’s Cathedral on the stroll into town. It’s a sight to behold.

Built in 1865, this three-bedroom cottage is the second-oldest house in Armidale, yet it has all the home comforts and modern essentials (think renovated kitchen, bathtub and laundry). Conveniently located opposite the heritage listed Central Park, which is especially colourful during the Autumn season, and an easy five-minute walk to local pubs, restaurants, cafés and retail shops. The Country Comfort is home to on-site restaurant The Cottage, a 110-year-old fully restored converted home with a nod to early Victorian architecture. If you’ve been holding out for the full country experience, Glenhope Farmstay is calling your name. Dangars Falls Walking Track
Found in the heart of World Heritage-listed Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, Dangars Falls Walking Track serves up some seriously jaw-dropping views along the way. The 600-metre return walk kicks-off at the Dangars Falls picnic area and includes lookouts over Dangars Falls (naturally) and the wild gorges of Salisbury Waters. Mental note – pack your camera.

Wollomombi Falls
Welcome to one of the highest waterfalls in Australia! Wollomombi Falls are a picturesque half-hour drive from Armidale along Waterfall Way. Pack an esky and fold-up chair, because this natural wonder comes complete with a barbeque and picnic area. Did someone say sausage sandwiches with waterfalls views?!

New England National Park
A must-visit during your Big Chill adventure, the New England National Park is home to World Heritage Gondwana Rainforest and seriously packs a punch when it comes to views, walking tracks and even multi-day hikes. Herdies
Life for team Herdies began in a cute, retro coffee van, doing the rounds at our regional markets. These days, you’ll find they’ve set up permanent residence at 101 Beardy Street (inside the Welder’s Dog Brewery) and we couldn’t be more chuffed. Sending out their positive Herdies vibes six days a week, these guys deliver a smiling crew, St Ali Coffee, cinnie scrolls and sausage rolls like none other we’ve ever known. Go visit. It’s awesome.
